Hamish is responsible for leading the coverage of large corporate, multinational, financial and government clients within our Global Banking and Markets business. Based in Sydney, Hamish reports locally to Tony Cripps, Chief Executive for Australia and regionally to David Morton, Regional Head of Credit and Lending, Asia-Pacific.
Hamish takes on this new role in addition to his existing position as Head of the Financial Institutions Group in Australia, which he has led since 2013.
Tony Cripps said: “Under Hamish’s leadership, Global Banking will play an increasingly pivotal role in connecting our clients to the cross-border business and investment opportunities that are rising from the continued globalisation of the Australian economy.”
HSBC forecasts that 80% of Australia’s exports will land on Asian shores by 20201, while, in 2015 alone, Australia attracted A$50 billion of foreign direct investment2.
“With more Australian companies fuelling their growth offshore and global investors equally attracted to the liquidity, sophistication and stability of the Australian capital markets, we are seeing more and more demand from clients to access the HSBC international network,” Cripps said.
Commenting on the appointment, David Morton said: “Australia has 25 years of consecutive growth and the largest pool of funds under management in Asia-Pacific. Hamish will provide strong on-the-ground leadership, which will be critical in enhancing our proposition to clients in this priority market for HSBC and for Global Banking and Markets."
Hamish succeeds Chris Russell, who recently relocated to Auckland to become Chief Executive for New Zealand
