HSBC announces key executive appointments in Australia

HSBC has announced the appointment of two executives, with Nick Wheeler joining as Head of Markets and Securities Services, Australia and New Zealand, and Anita O’Brien named Head of Global Banking, Australia.

Kaber Mclean, CEO of HSBC Australia, said: “We are excited to welcome Nick and Anita to the executive team. Both bring an impressive track record of building strong client relationships, delivering business growth and fostering talent, so will be instrumental in driving the continued growth of our Global Banking and Markets business in Australia.”

Mr Wheeler commenced in his new role on 1 April. He joined HSBC in 2004 and has since held a number of senior roles within the Markets and Securities Services business – most recently as Head of Institutional and Wealth Sales for ASEAN, as well as Co-Head of ESG for Asia Pacific.

Ms O’Brien commenced in her role on 23 March after acting in it on an interim basis since November last year. She first joined HSBC in 2018 as Head of the Financial Institutions Group in Australia and New Zealand after a 20-year career in the banking sector in Sydney and London.
