A-Z of AWEI

The AWEI is the national benchmarking instrument for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex (LGBTI) inclusion within Australian workplaces. The AWEI is delivered by Pride in Diversity, Australia’s national not-for-profit support program for all aspects of LGBTI workplace inclusion.

This year, the AWEI received entries from 158 organisations across Australia. These firms were assessed against a variety of measures, including the strength of their HR policies, the activity of their Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and the visibility of LGBTI allies within the workplace.

“We’ve invested huge efforts in fostering greater LGBTI inclusion at HSBC Australia over the past 12 months, which saw us add 30 points to our AWEI score this year – just four points off Silver,” said David Matthews, Head of Communications and Pride Network Executive Sponsor, Australia.

“In just over a year we’ve forged a partnership with Twenty10, our first LGBTI community partner, significantly increased membership to both the bank’s Pride Network and its allies program and hosted our first precinct-wide event with other corporates located in Barangaroo.

HSBC has proudly retained its AWEI Bronze ranking

“To be recognised as one of Australia’s top 50 employers for LGBTI inclusion is a significant achievement, but it also represents an even greater opportunity to rally together and invest in achieving more next year,” said David.

So far in 2019, HSBC Australia’s Pride Network has hosted an annual Mardi Gras celebration and organised a panel with ACON, Twenty10 and Woolworths to mark International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).

All employees are welcome to join HSBC Australia’s Pride Network or throw their support behind its ever-growing Allies program.
