Steve Hughes commences as CEO of HSBC Australia and New Zealand

Steve Hughes has commenced in the role as Chief Executive Officer and Head of Banking, HSBC Australia and New Zealand, effective 1 January. The appointment of Steve aligns the local reporting structure with other HSBC markets in the region.

Commenting on the appointment, Surendra Rosha, Co-CEO, Asia and Middle East, HSBC said: “Steve takes on this role equipped with a deep understanding of financial services and the local market. During his time at HSBC, he has overseen consistent growth of HSBC’s Australia and New Zealand wholesale business, building it into a leading international business that is a critical part of our global network.”

Steve has over 30 years of banking experience with both HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland, including over 20 years in Australia. He joined HSBC more than ten years ago, running Commercial Banking, before combining this with Global Banking and then integrating the Australia and New Zealand Wholesale businesses. During this time, Steve has overseen consistent growth in revenue and client numbers, building a leading internationally connected business.
